Preview 200 types of file in SharePoint 2007
Have you ever wanted to look at a file in SharePoint to see if it is the document you want before opening it or saving it for editing? Have you ever tried looking at a file but it wouldn’t open because it was unsupported? Well I may just have the answer for you. Over the last few weeks I have been working with a company which makes a SharePoint Viewer which I think is excellent. It works as follows:
The list of documents above may be typical of any SharePoint with a variety of files present. Normally some of these files would not be viewable using SharePoint and some of the names are unhelpful to establish if they are files you are looking for. Although you can train up end users to use supported file types and label files correctly they will still be end users! Using this SharePoint Viewer which has been developed you can preview the file instantly.
Clicking on any of the files and the contents of the document appears instantly. 200 file types are supported which is huge and could prove very beneficial for schools. The image below shows a PowerPoint document in preview mode.
Working with the company I have managed to negotiate some educational pricing to the UK and Europe so if the product interests you get in touch with me by email mike.herrity@sharepointineducation.com and we can discuss the detail.

Hello Mike, yes this is a great solution. We even integrated it into our own document and case management solution, called Share.DocX, which is fully based on the SharePoint object model (so no things next to SharePoint as lots of other solutions do!).
